Bobby Boucher (Adam Sandler) is a socially inept 31-year-old from Louisiana. He is home schooled and sheltered by his over-protective Mama (Kathy Bates). His only contact with society is his water boy job for a college team where the players relentlessly make fun of him, and his coach doesn't let him fight back. This all changes when Bobby gets a new coach (Henry Winkler) who lets him stand up for himself. Bobby finally releases years of stored up rage and is transformed into the most devastating tackler on the team. Meanwhile Bobby has a love intrest in the form of Vicki Vallencourt (Fairuza Balk). Now he has to learn how to play football and go to college, all without mama's knowledge. The Waterboy offers a high dosage of humor, which vary from mildly amusing to genuinely funny. Unfortunately, Sandler's attempts to develop his character and inject a moral into the movie arn't handled well. Overall however, The Waterboy is an enjoyable comedy, especially for Adam Sandler fans.
